The PISTE Fencing Academy
The PISTE Fencing Academy is our high-performance fencing program currently based at the Flatbush YMCA. Our target demographic is Black students ages 8-11 years old from the Flatbush area or surrounding communities.
The academy provides school year-round intensive training to exemplary students in the Brooklyn community at no required cost to families. This exclusive program is currently offered to 20-24 students who can commit to consistent training and want to pursue competitive fencing.
Students in the academy have access to 1:1 tutoring and mentorship from our approved roster of volunteers, many of which are high school honors students from Stuyvesant High School. The academy offers chess once a week, and a range of other educational programs that aim to give students an introduction to new possibilities and career trajectories.
Academy students are provided with electric fencing equipment and are supported to participate in fencing competitions.
